BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Powerade RP loses its second straight match (damn)

Trying to bounce back from a 31-point demolition job handed to them by Jordan, the Philippine Team went into their match against Chinese Taipei in the 31st edition of the William Jones Cup with high spirits.

They knew that they were in for a tough match against the hosts and stayed neck-and-neck with them as Japeth Aguilar rammed down a vicious slam to notch the count at 68-all with six minutes left in the game. The Filipinos kept pace for the next few possessions but two straight traveling violations on Wynne Arboleda and two missed free throws by Cyrus Baguio curtailed the RP Team's momentum and gave Taipei the space it needed in the end game to come away with a 86-77 win.

The Philippines came storming back after playing shoddy defense in the first half that saw Taipei rain 11 triples on the Filipinos.

Taiwan 86 - Tien 26, Yang CM 14, Yang CY 14, Chang 8, Lee 8, Chen 8, Chen SN 7, Lin 2, Hsu 2, Wu 2

Philippines 77 - Miller 15, Raymundo 12, Yap 12, Santos 10, Aguilar 10, Baguio 7, Arboleda 4, De Ocampo 2, Norwood 2, Dillinger 2, Taulava 1, Thoss 0
