BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

The Coffee Shop where we (Smart Gilas RP) hang out

The wifi connection in the room costs US $10 a day and considering we've been here for two weeks now that still a lot of money. What we all do is hang out in the coffee shop at the Sunlake Hotel where the wifi is free.

Aside from us media guys and team officials, the players who regularly bring their laptops here to chat, email, download or do whatever are: CJ Giles, Jayvee Casio, Mark Barroca, and Greg Slaughter. The others like RJ Jazul and Dylan Ababou occasionally go here.

We're usually here first thing in the morning, after every meal unless we're out, and nighttime until the wee hours of dawn. Hahaha. Nightowls.

Our two week stay is winding up and we will all be back in Manila on Thursday. The last game is tomorrow 4pm (5pm Manila time) against the home team Indonesia. It's their two Americans who make their team go along with their top three locals. After that, their bench is pretty much thin. But of course, no one expects it to be easy. It's going to be a dogfight.
