Boston Marathon

While watching the Fil Oil games last Saturday, a friend of mine asked me what I thought of the coming Game 7 between Boston and Chicago. He knew me to be a Bulls fan but I gave him a look of wishful thinking then said, "Boston will win."

How could you when you're a Bulls fan?

Well, I'd love to be proven wrong. Really but time and tide in Boston.

When it comes to NBA basketball, Game 7 is the domain of the Boston Celtics never mind if the new arena has this corporate smell to it. It started making history and reconnecting with last year's championship.

Then I added... no, it will not go into overtime.

It isn't like a few years ago when the Bulls (Ben Gordon, Tyrus Thomas, and Kirk Hinrich are the only ones left from that squad) swept the defending champion Miami Heat from the playoffs.

If it were a Game 6 that the Bulls needed to close then I'd say they'd win. In Game 7's thus far they are 1-2.

It would have been too good for Game 7 to go into extra time but the leprechauns have moved from the old building into the new one. Who says they're going to let the home team lose?

That second quarter was the culprit. One lousy quarter did them in and allowed Boston to seize a sizable halftime lead. Sure they rallied but the defense was porous.

At the start of the year, I seeded the Bulls to make the playoffs and another friend of mine said, "Wishful thinking."

I thought that they had a bad streak and now were going to get over the hump. They did but they traded away half the team as I knew it. I thought it wasn't bad as they got back Brad Miller but clearly his best years were in Sacto. I always like John Salmons when he was a King but to see him mesh and become a prime time player with the Bulls... the trade reenergized the team and propeled them towards the playoffs.

It was a good run more so by taking the champions to the limit. Now they shouldn't make the mistakes of previous years when there was duplicity and lack of trust. Or they'll feel as if they're on a marathon of rebuilding that never seems to end.
