BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

They can play but can they play together?

PFF releases list of aspirants for AFC Challenge Cup

The Philippine Football Federation has released a list of players from which the Men’s National Team will be formed out of for the Asian Football Challenge Cup Qualifiers from April 14-18, 2009 in the Maldives Islands.

Trying out for the forwards are Ian Araneta, Emelio Caligdong, Ruben Doctora Jr., Chad Gould, Christopher Greatwich, Mark Madrona, Jose Andoni Santos, Jovanie Simpron.

For the midfield position, there’s Juan Antonio Abiera, Aaron Altiche, Ricardo Becite, Henry Brauner, Jason De Jong, Bong Bong Dorlas, Simon Greatwich, Francis Gustilo, Peter Jaugan, Nicolas Leonora, Jeffrey Liman, Jerome Orcullo, Arnie Pasinabo Jr., Stephan Markus Schrock, Glester Sobremisana, Mark Alvin Valeroso, James Younghusband, and Philip Younghusband.

Trying out for the defenders are: Joebel Bermejo, Alexander Borromeo, Jason Cordova, Anton Del Rosario, Arman Esteban, Eliezer Fabroada, Eduardo Gempisaw Jr., Robert James Gier, and Gerald Orcullo.

The goalkeepers are Louie Casas, Neil Etheridge, Jose Maria Ignacio Mendezona, and Eduard SacapaƱo.

The Philippines is grouped Turkmenistan, Bhutan, and Maldives.

Former National Coach Aris Caslib is helping out with the formation and training of the team. The final list of players will be released later in the week.
