BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Ain't She A Beauty?

The old Yankee Stadium was a landmark. It's one of the Big Apple's biggest tourist attractions and I myself positively got the chills every single time I went there. I felt the history of the place. Dammit, this is where so much baseball history was made! Not just Yankee players and baseball but even those from others teams and other sports.

Like any old ballpark, I could see how it was aging. The maintenance costs alone must have been staggering. And I guess it was really time to build a new one. I must admit that I wasn't too crazy about tearing down the House That Ruth Built in favor of The House That George Built. But I have to admit and I do agree with nyyankeesrumors.com (thanks for the great shots) that just seeing the new pictures of the Stadium... I wish; I totally wish I was there for Opening Day.

But check out the spacious locker room, the view from the Deegan Highway, the overhead shot where you can see the new beside the old stadium, the Grand Concourse, and the outside area. Yeahhhhhhhhhh. So cool!

Now hopefully they can keep the beer from spilling onto the new seats because it just made walking around such a bitch. But kebabs outside! Primo hotdogs with sauerkraut and Cracker Jacks! Junk food heaven.
