BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Winter Classic here we come!

Rick's plan:
1) Get in shape by losing that excess poundage and doing weights.
2) Practice ice skating once more
3) Try out for the Islanders' free agent camp after summer
4) Word is the next Winter Classic will be played at the new Yankee Stadium
5) With any luck, I'll be the first Flip to play in the NHL.

Pipe dream, huh? You have to understand why I love hockey. I learned how to play it at a late age but that never stopped me from playing a game I first saw on FEN.
