BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

More Sideline Slants

Now the New York Jets realize that signing Brett Favre was a mistake. The QB is holding his team hostage once more by taking his time on deciding whether to play or not.

The Chicago Bulls seem intent on trading away Joakim Noah. What a disappointing team! They should trade away everybody. Including the GM and the owner.

John Smoltz and Rocco Baldelli go to the Boston Red Sox. That's a huge signing for this team.

The rematch between Frank Mir vs. Brock Lesnar (who might be training in Randy Couture's gym for this match). I hope Mir kicks Lesnar into next year in traction to boot.

Sevilla striker Freddy Kanoute is fined for showing his t-shirt with the word "Palestine" printed on it in several languages after he scored a goal in his side's 2-1 win over Deportivo La Coruna in the Copa Del Ray. Why? It didn't say anything else? Should we fine David Beckham for wearing the Union Jack around him after his Real Madrid team beat Mallorca to win the La Liga? After all England kicked Spain's royal butt in almost every war in the previous centuries.

MLS. The David Beckham adventure in the US is officially a flop. Admit it.
