BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Presenting... the first-ever Ateneo Sports Calendar!

This was a project that I proposed way back in 2006 to Ateneo and now, well... with the help of my buddies at Fabilioh, it's all happening.

In the past two weeks, we've been working on the first-ever Ateneo Sports Calendar. It's tentatively titled, "Heroes" and it features 15 varsity teams in two different calendars (you have a choice between the two different concepts we're shooting for you). As much as we wanted to feature a lot more teams it was simply impossible. A 28-month calendar sounded kinda preposterous you surely understand. Next year, we'll see what we can do.

So it's a 14-month calendar from January 2009 up to February 2010 and it's a five-year project for us with the proceeds being donated to a full athletic scholarship to an athlete and a sport of our choice.
And we're working in concert with the University Athletics Office for this. Hey... that's huge, huh? An athletic scholarship! Shiver me timbers!

Muchos gracias to Ricky Palou, Em Fernandez, and Rick Du for all the help.

We will be putting on display the first two months of the calendar during the December 6 Alumni Homecoming at the Ateneo High School and will be pre-selling the calendar and those who pay on that day will have the calendars delivered to your doorstep before December 20.
If you are not able to go to the Homecoming, we will have drop off points for the sales in Makati, Quezon City, Ateneo, and in Pasig.

Stay tuned to Bleachers' Brew and Fabilioh for more updates on where you can purchase them . There will also be updates on the prices of the calendars (they come in the high-end, mid-price level, and desk top calendars that make it affordable to one and all).

Who's on the cover? Good question. Chris Tiu, Cristina Garcia, Mike Mendoza, Bea Pascual, Alex Tolome, Gerard Cancio, Nikki Santiago, Toni Rivero, AJ Pareja, Toons Canoy, and two more.

What teams are in the calendar?
Men's and Women's Basketball, Men's and Women's Football, Men's and Women's Track and Field, Men's and Women's Volleyball, Fencing, Men's and Women's Taekwondo, BBB, Judo, Rowing, and Men's Baseball.

The music on the video is "Everyday People" by Sly and the Family Stone. I always wanted to use that song for a video and only got to use it now.

Watch out for the next promo vid! Friday night!

Here are outtakes of those shoots. Above its the baseball team's Reinhart Bartolome. The takewondo jins are Mark, Wendell, and Gyle. And below, it's the Ateneo Women's Volleyball team with the crew shooting this. These shots will not appear in the calendar.
