BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

My Top 10 People of the Year

Ayt, effendis. Here are my fave people of the year and in no more particular order. These people made the year memorable and downright interesting:

1. Shigeru Miyamoto (Wii + Nintendo = genius)
2. Barack Obama (Don't let us down, Barry!)
3. Nonoy Baclao (Presenting the Captain of next year's Ateneo Blue Eagles... along with Jai Reyes and Rabeh Al-Hussaini)
4. Michael Phelps (IMHO, the three hottest tickets in Beijing were the Redeem Team, the track and field events, and this Man from Atlantis)
5. Tony Blair (yeah the former British PM has his lows but he was cool in a way)
6. Dylan (the Peep Show host rocks)
7. Robert Downey Jr. (the return of the comeback in a most memorable way. Tony Stark lives!)
8. Manny Pacquiao (the King of the World)
9. Kurt Streeter (LA Times writer who has come into his own. Very insightful.)
10. Heidi Klum (the Queen of the Swimsuit)
