BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Command and create with NBA Stars
by rick olivares

Kevin Garnett, Gilbert Arenas, Dwight Howard, Tracy McGrady and Tim Duncan.

The five of them individually are the stars on their respective squads.

Together they are a dream team unto itself.

And collectively, they have five NBA championships, 33 All-Star berths, 28 All-NBA selections, 3 NBA MVP Awards, 19 All-Defensive selections, 3 Finals MVP Awards, 2 Most Improved Player Awards, 2 Scoring Champion Awards, and 1 Slam Dunk Championship Award.

Does that leave any doubt on who better to provide and rear young and hopeful ballers into the NBA brotherhood than this dynamic Fab Five?

For Season 2008-09, 12 unknown basketball players from the United States and China were flown in together to learn the secrets of the game from the five in a Commander and Creators series that explores adidas’ calls for “brotherhood.”

“At adidas, we are all about enabling athletes to jump one inch higher and to become one step quicker – that’s what we were born to do,” said Lawrence Norman, adidas vice president of global basketball.

The journey of the NBA aspirants and the NBA superstars themselves is documented in a four-part film series called “NBA Tested: Brotherhood ready.”

The pupils undergo training in two particular styles of play under the tutelage of the Garnett and company.

Commanders Tim Duncan and Dwight Howard impart on their students the value of being a force in the paint on both sides of the court.

Creators Tracy McGrady and Gilbert Arenas mentor on running the floor, playmaking, and a stealth-like approach to the game where their efforts are crucial to any team’s results.

Ultimately, the journey concludes as a “Brotherhood” in Boston with Kevin Garnett who will share from the experience of winning a Larry O’Brien trophy last NBA season with the Boston Celtics and fellow All-Stars Ray Allen and Paul Pierce.

Acknowledging the two playing styles and focusing on product development for athlete success, the German-based company created the adidas Team Signature Command and Create footwear collection.

Explained Norman, “Our adidas Team Signature Commander and Creator collection represents the most elite level of adidas basketball performance products.”

The latest adidas basketball footwear represents the highest technological designs in the history of the world’s first and original athletic apparel-maker.

Tested by the best basketball players in the world, adidas Team Signature footwear is customized for different styles of play.

The TS Commander is created especially to absorb impact and allow for more explosion on follows and finishes while the TS Creator uses adidas innovations like ForMotion technology that enhances a player’s natural movements and speed, allowing for quick cuts and crossovers.

“The adidas campaign is inspiring and enabling consumers to directly connect with the NBA as the highest level of Brotherhood,” summed up Ryan Morlan, adidas director of global basketball communications.

Creator shoe
More of a guard’s shoe as well as a superior athlete, the TS Creator is less bulky than the commander shoes that are ideal for waging a battle for supremacy inside the paint. It’s lighter so it aids a player when he takes to the air to sky for a dunk or a lay-up.

Despite but the mid-cut, the TS Creator provides excellent ankle support for those who have issues with their feet. All the better to break the ankles of opposing guards looks like you’re not losing anything in regards to ankle support.

The adidas TS Creator Player basketball shoe comes with a forefoot outsole wrap that brings the stability needed for top speed. Train hard, practice hard and play hard. Every player works together to make the team strong. That’s how it is done in the Brotherhood.

Features:
· Synthetic upper offers fit and comfort.
· Features custom graphic prints such as “Mr. Big Shot” on Denver Nuggets guard Chauncey Billups shoe.
· Molded EVA midsole adds lightweight cushioning. adiPRENE®+ maintains forefoot propulsion and efficiency.

Commander shoe
The Commander line of footwear is specifically designed for the man in the middle where he will need every advantage in pursuit of those rebounds and to recover and deny those who would rather lay bricks inside the shaded lane.

Basketball is more than a battle of turf but a battle for respect. It’s about looking after your guards if their counterparts have broken through the perimeter. It’s like saying, “Don’t worry because I’ve got your back.”

It’s about wanting that ball more than anyone else on the court and protecting the shaded lane.

Features:
It is loaded with high performance features like SELECT System interchangeable sockliners, adjustable ankle strap and luxurious upper materials.
· Synthetic leather nubuck upper with adjustable straps for support
· Interchangeable sock liners for custom fit and performance
· SELECT System for modular cushioning and customized fit and feel
· Compression-molded EVA midsole for lightweight cushioning
· Herringbone pattern outsole delivers optimum traction
· Non-marking rubber outsole.

The adidas Team Signature Commander and Creator was developed not only as a product but also as a means to teach the skills and the on court ethics that speak of respect for the game and for Brotherhood.

Now go lace them up and elevate your game to the highest level.
