BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

She ain't heavy. It's just her game.

She went on a tear after dropping the Hardenne from her name going 63-4 last year. Unfortunately since the start of the year, Justin Henin's game has dropped too. After losing in the Australian Open to Maria Sharapova, her only title was one at her native country, the Proximus Diamond Games, in Antwerp, Belgium. Most recently, she's been ousted by Francesca Schiavone in the Dubai Open and by Serena Williams in the Sony Ericsson Open. And heading into Family Circle Cup, she dropped out after a knee injury. With the French Open coming up, any early exit officially puts her in a slump.
