BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

The Azkals Line-up for the Asian Challenge Cup Qualifiers

Here's the starting RP XI for the Asian Challenge Cup Qualifiers that will begin this coming May 13 in Iloilo:

Neil Etheridge
Ali Borromeo
Chris Greatwich
Anton Del Rosario
Arnie Panisabo
Chippy Caligdong, team captain
Roberto Canedo
Jason Cordova
Phi Younghusband
Chad Gould
Joebel Bermejo

First game May 13 vs. Brunei
Second game May 15 vs. Tajikistan
Third game May 17 vs. Bhutan

According to National Coach Nonoy Fegidero who succeeded Aris Caslib, all the matches will be held at 3:30pm. There are seven new players in the 23-man team and chemistry is still out of the window. With the Fil-foreigners arriving late to familiarize themselves with the new system and new teammates, Fegidero stressed to the team their roles and responsibilities on the pitch. They'll be playing 4-4-2 and will be banking on the veterans to help carry the team.

The team is wary about Tajikistan, the defending champion for these legs, but Fegidero believes with home field support, they'll match up well.

Good luck, coach. Talk to you again!
