BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

An experience of a lifetime

Another Brady pass intercepted? LeBron James and supermodel Gisele Bundchen grace the cover of the latest issue of Vogue.

Billy Crystal batted lead-off in place of Johnny Damon. He even got ahead of the count 3-1 but whiffed on the next two pitches. If he didn't swing at the last pitch he would have gotten on base for a walk (but Damon would pinch run for him).

No worries, there, Billy. We're proud of you. Man, wouldn't this be a great experience?

But he got the ball of his memorable at-bat as a souvenir. "All I wanted was to touch the ball," said the funnyman who was cheered on by fellow comedian Robin Williams. After the game he went up to the owners box and Crystal quipped, "I thought they (the Steinbrenners) were going to trade me for Jerry Seinfeld."
