BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

It's Almost Over for Liverpool

Look at Titus Bramble celebrate. And Xabi Alonso's expression says it all. Wigan snatched a victory of sorts when it scored its first point of the season against one of the EPL's Big Four with a 1-1 draw with Liverpool.

With 10 minutes left in the match, Bramble equalized and quieted the 42,000 plus spectators at Anfield. Fernando Torres' heroics were for naught and the Reds slipped to fifth place in the standings a full 12 points behind leader Arsenal. That's four wins behind the Gunners for the uninitiated.

There's still a chance though but all they have to look forward to really is Europe now. If the team doesn't bring home any cup this year there'll be plenty of changes in Anfield for sure.
