BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Charles Barkley was so right about athletes: presenting the Crackhead and the Meathead

Reports have it that Martina Hingis scribbled the words, "all good" on her doping control form in Wimbledon last year. It was the same tournament that not only hastened the end of her career but her ultimate entry into Sports Hall of Shame. More so now that the tests really did come out positive and she received a two-year ban (despite her proclamations of retiring for "good" -- there's that word again!). Methinks that what she meant by "all good" is that she truly enjoyed crack. For real I'm sure, dudes!

Isiah Thomas in the meantime has promised the city of New York and James Dolan an NBA championship. I don't know if he meant via PS3 or the real thing, but maybe David Stern's boys should take a sample from Thomas who has not won much in the Big Apple. Maybe he and Hingis are enjoying the same thing.

Oh yeah, Charles Barkley was so right about athletes not being the best role models. Maybe I should switch to Godzilla (you'll know that I'm referring to his commercial with the famed monster).

AND SO YOU KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT WATCH THESE....
