BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

You Make the Call Question #2

Okay, here's the recap, sports fans. We'll be posting five questions, one a day for five straight days. Point is, you gotta make the call and email me. We'll pick out three winners and give them a goody bag of sports stuff. Hope the skinny is good enough. Drop me a line if ya have any questions.

#2 In October 9, 1996, during the fiercely fought American League Championship Series between the Baltimore Orioles and the New York Yankees, fan Jeffrey Maier reached out to grab Yankee short stop Derek Jeter’s blast that seemed a little short of a home run that. Oriole centerfielder Tony Tarasco was waiting for the ball to settle into his glove but instead Maier grabbed the ball. Was Maier called for fan interference and Derek Jeter ruled out? You make the call.
