BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Ateneo Sports News

Crystal Ballentyne will be suiting up for the Ateneo Women's Volleyball Team this Season 70. Will confirm if Kirk Long will also be playing for the Men's Baseball Team.

The Blue Eagle teams of 2001 & 2002 held a reunion last December 3. Almost everyone made it including Alfred Antonio, Eric Yao, and Dominic Banal. Missing was Andrew Cruz who is in the US, Macky Escalona, and Doug Kramer.

Spoke with Rich Alvarez last Wednesday before Red Bull's game with Coca Cola. He won't be ready for duty 'til after two months.

Magnum Membrere has been a dependable player for Red Bull. When he was first put on reserve after being drafted, he feared that he'd never get the chance to play. But he's shwon that he can play in the PBA. When Larry Fonacier was traded to Magnolia, the former King Eagle told Membrere that with himself and Lordy Tugade out of the line-up, he'd get a chance and to make the most of it. Says Mags, "I love playing for coach Yeng! Ibang klase mag-motivate."

In my honest opinion, JC Intal needs to move to another team if he wants to flourish.
