BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Various Ateneo stuff

To those who sent inquiries regarding Ateneo apparel (including jerseys), I have forwarded them to adidas so they can see the interest. Anyone who might want someof these goods, just send your name/s and contact info. They would make good Christmas gift too.

Blue Eagles Team Manager Paolo Trillo informed me that the team won't be participating in the PBL save for Ford Arao. They will be playing in the Champions League this November (to be covered by Basketball TV) minus Ford. So I'm not sure who'll be moving up from Team B.

PBL. Spoke to Pharex Team Manager Ding Camua at the Ateneo team sports' dinner last night (they should have scheduled this on another day since the entire school was prpeping for their finals -- Starbucks was full to bursting with students studying) and he'll schedule a team interview once the line-up has been finalized. And... another former Blue Eagle in Jean Alabanza is also the manager. Hey, Jean!

One of the blog's visitors is a student from Letran who actually also cheers for Ateneo. A few days before Game 1 of the series with DLSU, he wrote me a letter asking if I could help him get a ticket for the game. I was able to get him a ticket and this Letranista texted me his thanks:
"It was my first time to watch a UAAP game, it was my first time to watch my favorite team, Ateneo play live. It was damn fantastic seeing the crowd going wild. I am one of the thousands who cheered for Ateneo to win that game... the first time and definitely worth it. For the Ateneans they say, "win or lose it's the school we choose," but for me even if I'm not an Atenean, my heart bleeds blue."

Hey, Jayson. Glad to be of help. Thanks to the non-Ateneans (including those Adamson students who asked coach John Flores for tickets) who cheered for us in the Final Four. Sa uulitin mga kaibigan. OBF!
