BLEACHERS BREW EST. MAY 2006

Someone asked me how my blog and newspaper column came to be titled "Bleachers Brew". It's like this, it's an amalgam of sorts of two things: The bleachers area in the stadium/arena where I used to sit when I would watch baseball, football, and basketball games and Miles Davis' great jazz album Bitches Brew. That's how it got culled together. I originally planned on calling it "The View from the Big Chair" that is a nod to Tears For Fear's second album, Songs from the Big Chair. So there.

Joe Lipa to be fired on September 17?

A well-placed source within the Department for Human Kinetics in UP said that Coach Joe Lipa will be fired from his post on Monday, September 17, 2007, two days after the Maroons' last game for the UAAP basketball season. The source also said that it will be announced by an athletics official not by the UP Chancellor.

The source also said that an assistant coach of the national team (who respectfully denied the claims), the coach of STI, and a few others have submitted their resumes or inquired about a coaching vacancy with the Maroons. Joe Lipa is still not yet done and the vultures are circling already.

But the editorial staff at Business Mirror checked with CHK who in turn said that the "report" wasn't true. The CHK official refuted all the claims and said that everything will be clear within the next few weeks pending a reassessment of the year's performance.

Stay tuned for more politics and crap from State U where forces are moving to destroy the man who has given glory to the school.
