The Meralco Bolts are struggling

The Meralco Bolts are struggling. And that is an understatement. After an undefeated pre-season, the Bolts are at 5-5 in this Governors’ Cup. Last Sunday evening, they absorbed a stinging 104-103 loss to Star Hotshots after a game winning shot by Joel Dwayne Wright drove hard on Allen Durham with time running out.

It was a painful loss as the strong performances from Durham (27 points and 14 rebounds), Chris Newsome (20 points), Cliff Hodge (18 points and 10 rebounds), Jimmy Alapag (14 points including four triples in the fourth period), and Reynel Hugnatan (11 points) went for naught.

The Bolts posted better stats. It’s just that the breaks of the game went Star’s way they denied Meralco an outright entry into the next stage for the second straight game.

Just my thoughts but Meralco needs another inside threat to complement Durham (and I felt the same way with Arinze Onuaku in the previous Commissioner’s Cup). That would ease the pressure on AD and the wingmen and guards.

While Jimmy has found his old deadly form, Baser Amer, Anjo Caram, and Jonathan Uyloan need to do their share but minutes have been so hard to come by.
