Clear Dream Match III building to a fever pitch with arrival of MUFC legends

On June 7, the University of Makati will once more be the battleground for a “sibling” rivalry and literally, an All-Star Football Match, in the Clear Dream Match III.

The first ever Clear Dream Match saw Phil Younghusband grab a win at the expense of his older brother, James, with a dominant 5-1 victory. The following year, the kuya, with his defense anchored by no less than Italian World Cup here Fabio Cannavaro, exacted his revenge, defeating a Dennis Wise-reinforced Team Phil, 4-1. With the brothers now tied at a win apiece, the game is taken a notch higher with the addition of two Manchester United legends, Paul Scholes and Andy Cole.

Fans of both Phil and James helped their respective teams get first pick of the legends by scoring points for either teams online. Phil won the final online points tally thanks to his active and digitally engaged fans, allowing him to pick Scholes to be part of the Team Phil contingent.

Scholes, the 11-time English Premier League champion, said, “It will be my first time, and I’m excited to see the young new talent in Asia. It’s always a great experience to visit a country where football is a growing sport.”

Cited as one of the best midfielders of his generation, Scholes has made over 700 appearances for Manchester United and has the third-highest number of appearances by any player for the club.  He has also played a key part in the club's Treble-winning success in the 1998–99 season.

Cole on the other hand will be part of Team James. Noted James of Cole’s inclusion in his side, “It will be great to have Andy on the team. Having the second highest goal scorer in English Premier League history on your team is definitely a huge asset.”

Cole has won numerous trophies with Manchester United and is one of the few players to date who has bagged all possible honors in the English game, including the PFA Young Player of the Year and the UEFA Champions League title.

“We have so many Manchester United fans in Asia, and I’m really excited to meet the fans in the Philippines,” said Cole in advance of his arrival in Manila.

With the teams set, the battle for Clear Supremacy inches closer to completion. The Clear Dream Match will be on June 7th at the University of Makati football grounds. Kick-off will be at 7:30 PM. Tickets are sold in all SM ticket outlets.

The Clear Dream Match is sponsored by Fairmont, PLDT Fibr, Adidas, Chris Sports, Gatorade, Greenwich, The Camp, Jaguar, Mint, and Sprinto.
