For his efforts in leading the Southwestern University Cobras to a 2-0 record against Manila teams in the ongoing Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup, Cameroonian Landry Sanjo was named the Purefoods Best Player of the Week.

The 6’7” Sanjo averaged 17.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 4.0 blocks in those two matches where the Cobras took down two previously unbeaten squads in Jose Rizal University and the University of Perpetual Help. SWU defeated JRU, 72-68, and UPHDS, 79-77.

"Landry is our a big part of our success," said SWU head coach Yayoy Alcoseba. "He plays smart, never forces the issue, and is our defensive anchor."

The Cobras return to Cebu where they will play four matches against UAAP squads La Salle and UE as well as CESAFI rivals University of San Carlos and University of Visayas from May 21-25 in the first road games in Filoil history.

Sanjo was also named to the Gatorade Best Five along with Perpetual Help’s Harold Arboleda, UP’s JR Gallarza, NU’s Alfred Aroga, and Letran’s Kevin Racal.

Holy Trinity College Wildcats’ Delmar Mahaling came out of nowhere to bag the Gatorade Defensive Player of the Week Award. The 6’4” Mahaling averaged 11.0 rebounds and 2.6 blocks in three matches for the Wildcats team out of General Santos City that is making their Filoil debut.
