It
looks like there’s a possibility that former Kaya head coach Kale Alvarez will
be returning to the bench this season – as head coach of Pasargad. Alvarez is a
former Diliman player who picked up the coaching reins of Kaya following the
departure of Juan Cutillas midway through the 2011-12 UFL season. Alvarez
piloted the side to a second place finish behind champion Global in last year’s
league play before resigning following the last UFL Cup.
If
Alvarez joins PSG, it is said that Essi Sedigh, PSG’s current head coach, will
be bumped up as the side’s technical adviser. PSG is currently at ninth place in the 10-team UFL Division One standings with a 0-1-4 record. They figured in a scoreless draw with Nomads last night at the Emperador Stadium in McKinley Hills despite dominating ball possession and shots attempts.
As for Alvarez’ former side, Kaya, reports have it that they are picking
up a foreign coach to take over the squad that has not had a coach in their
last two outings following the surprising early exit of Uruguayan Maor Rozen
who left for Spain last Wednesday.
In their last two matches since Rozen left, Kaya lost to Stallion, 2-1,
and drew, 1-1 with Loyola.
Alvarez played for the UP Fighting Maroons in the UAAP where he won a couple of football championships and some club football with Diliman and Ateneo. He also was the Ateneo Blue Eagles’ trainer during their 2010-11 championship season. His younger brother, Kurt, was in Kaya's line-up in the last season. He also currently operates the gym Focus Athletics in the Magallanes area.
