Angel Guirado signs with Spanish 2^nd Div side Olimpic Xativa

Angel Guirado has just signed a contract with Spanish Segunda Division (Group Three) side Olimpic Xativa. Guirado had an acrimonious split with Indian club Salgaocar in the I League due to his playing with the Philippine National Team in the 2012 Suzuki Cup.

Guirado joins a Olimpic Xativa side that is currently in second place in the La Liga Second Division standings with a 16-9-5 record. The Group Three matches are all played in the Valencia area that is comprised of 21 teams. Huracan Valencia is ahead of Olimpic Xativa by two points 59-57 with a 15-14-1 record.

“The selection of playing for the Philippines was important to me,” explained Guirado who joins his 15^th football club in a pro career that began in 2003. Prior to joining Salgaocar, Guirado played for UFL power Global during the 2011-12 season helping the team to a league title. For the Philippine National Team, he has scored eight goals. “We had an agreement with (Salgaocar) management for me to play with the national team. It is unfortunate when they change coaches they refused to honor the agreement.”

The Indian side was upset with Guirado’s absences and dropped him in favor of Brazilian striker Josimar Martins. Salgaocar dropped three of their strikers this past season due to varying differences that has seen the club drop to the bottom of the standings. Guirado scored two goals for the club in five matches.

“All that is past now,” added Guirado who will be arriving in the Philippines this Tuesday for a 15-day vacation. “I am looking forward to playing once more in Spain. I am waiting for the transfer window to make it official.”
