Pasargad picks up ex-Azkals U21 talent Angelo Verheye Marasigan

Pasargad picks up ex-Azkals U21 talent Verheye Marasigan

After concluding the UFL Cup 2012 edition by missing the top eight, Pasargad undertook significant changes in the line-up in preparation for the upcoming SMART National Club Championships this coming January 2013 by acquiring ex-Azkal U21 talent, Angelo Verheye Marasigan.

Verheye Marasigan plied his trade in the highly competitive Belgian league having stints in leading clubs as a teenager until he reached 19.  He started his career in the youth team of KVC Deerlijk, a local club located in the Belgian province of West Flanders.  At the age of 12, he moved to nearby SV Zulte-Waregem to play with their U-15 squad until he moved to top-flight competition in the Belgian Pro League when he moved to the renowned KAA Gent football club in East Flanders in the reserve squad.  Marasigan along with a fellow 16 year old were the youngest players in the reserve squad.  Popularly known as “the Buffalos”, KAA Ghent is credited for winning the Belgian Cup on 3 occasions (1963-64, 1983-84 and 2009-10).

Marasigan was a member of the Azkals U-21 selection that took part in the recent Brunei Cup where he was credited for the winning goal versus Singapore.

“Angelo will form a vital cog in our defensive line.  “His aggressive play will complement the back four with Jahambaksh Zabihi Taher, Emil Muncada and Jay Torres” says Pasargad co-owner Javier Mantecon.  “Angelo’s addition is likewise crucial as we increase our base of local Filipino talent into the roster”.

Pasargad has continued to progress at developing a local core of footballers.  “We are seriously studying other football players outside of Metro Manila and will continue to mix this with scouting for Filipino talent outside the country.   Recently, we acquired CD Harris, a Filipino-American footballer from Florida, USA as part of our line-up.  CD has had substantial experience in the US Pro League as well as in South American competition.  This augurs well for the club in that we will now be able to generate a broader fan base now that we have more Filipino football talent in the squad”, Mantecon adds.

Pasargad qualified in the Round of 16 of the PFF-Smart National Club Championships in January 2013.  They will play Philippine Army FC in the first match this January 19, 2013 at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
