With new Kaya forward/midfielder Anton Ugarte

I had to ask Antonio Ugarte is he was related to the man for whom the old Ugarte Football Field was named after (now the Ayala Triangle in Makati). "Yes, he is the brother of my great grandfather," says the Fil-Am just finished his career with San Francisco State University and signed with Kaya FC today.

"Anton" as he likes to be called, would follow Kaya's matches on the internet and even liked the club in their Facebook page. "Then someone suggested that I come over for a tryout. Coach Kale (Alvarez) liked my stuff on a video and asked me to work out with the team. I guess I did well enough for them to give me a try."

Ugarte, who plays both the forward and midfield positions, is a fan of FC Barcelona and Leo Messi. "I arrived the other week and they have made me feel like a part of the family.  And it sure is cool that there are a number of guys on this team who are from the Bay Area. It makes the transition easier. Now I hope I can contribute to Kaya's season." And he already did by scoring a goal during Kaya's title run in last weekend's Kia Cup.

  1. Congratulations Antonio on making it to the UFL and Kaya FC. Thanks for following our recommendations. I hope you can continue your family tradition by eventually playing on the national team as well. Good luck on your stay there from the guys at the usapang forum.
