As part of my Introduction to Journalism class in my alma mater of Ateneo de Manila, I frequently have guests who either give short talks about their respective expertise in media or are celebrities/athletes. In the latter's case, I have my students write either commentary or profile them. We've had chefs, indie bands, and broadcast journalists, and athletes in attendance.
Last Tuesday, September 11 (for today, Tuesday September 18, we had indie band Your Imaginary Friends and TJ Manotoc), I invited footballers Nate Burkey and Jonah Romero of Kaya to make a guest appearance in my class where my students were tasked to write a feature article/op-ed piece about them. Here are some of the best of the bunch. Bear in mind that none of them are with the official school newspaper, The Guidon, or something similar. The photo on the right is from Carmela Nery.
