After starting the new NHL season with a 2-0 loss to the Florida Panthers, the New York Islanders have bounced back with a three-game win streak that has people in Nassau and Long Island abuzz. Well, there's me as well. A transplanted Isles fan thousands of miles away. They began that streak with a 2-1 win over the Minnesota North Stars then a 5-1 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Last Saturday, they beat the New York Rangers 4-2 behind the superb goaltending of Evgeni Nabokov (left) and the hat trick by John Tavares (right) who now has five goals this season. They play the Lightning once more this Thursday before going to Florida for a road match. Then it's a meeting with the Pittsburgh Penguins with whom they have a rivalry going. The Isles have to take this two road matches so they head into the Consol Energy Center to take on the Penguins who are reeling with three straight loses. Guess Dan Bylsma is really missing Sidney Crosby and Geno Malkin. Photo by Kathy Kmonicek.
