Where is Mark Tallo?

This is not an official statement. But team officials have intimated to me the lowdown.

In case you are all wondering where Mark Jayven Tallo has gone, he is back home in Cebu. Tallo packed his bags and left the day after the Ateneo Blue Eagles played the Mapua Cardinals in the quarterfinals of the Filoil Flying V Premier Cup.

The day before, he spoke with head coach Norman Black and expressed his unhappiness about not being able to play. Tallo wondered why Kiefer Ravena was given playing time when he was a rookie like him. Of course, Tallo himself is a talented player and the lack of playing time seemed like disrespect to him. Coach explained that there’s a system to follow and he would eventually get his time in with the team. Everyone thought that it was all right. Apparently it wasn’t.

The team officials immediately tried to get in touch with the young player from Cebu as soon as he left but it took them a few days to reply. The father says it was the son’s idea to go home. The son says it was his father’s advice.

Whatever it is, the short stint of Mark Jayven Tallo with Ateneo looks to be over. Almost immediately after news of his going back to Cebu filtered out of Katipunan, several Manila schools have asked him to play for their teams. There are UAAP and NCAA schools as well. Wherever Tallo may end up, the Ateneo Blue Eagles wish him the best. It would have been nice to have him on the team which is why he was recruited. But as in the case with Clark Bautista three years ago, some things happen.

So who will be the new addition to the Blue Eagles? No one knows yet. Let’s give it a few days. They have their team building next weekend and maybe by then we’d know.

But I have an idea who it is. My honest opinion – it’s either BJ Cipriano or Joma Adornado both who have put in their time with Ateneo Team B.

  1. I guess the advice of his father, a former PBA and Pepsi Mega player himself, was a little bit premature.Sayang ng talent. ADMU has a winning tradition.

  3. Coach Norman shouldn't have made personal promises to the father which he had no intention of fulfilling.

  4. Since enrollment procedures are done with in almost all universities in the Metro, he'll have to sit out this year to get his chance to play, if he still wants to, for a UAAP team.

Coach Norman may have promised playing time but he needs to imbibe the Ateneo system first.

Lastly, shouldn't Ateneo education suffice? He has cracked Hail Mary team already while others still have to prove their worth from Glory Be and wait for possible call-ups. Ego shouldn't have gotten in the way of them. UAAP is the big league and the current NB system is not for the simple-minded, it takes a lot of getting used to. Kiefer has been in the Ateneo radar and has been part of the Ateneo pipeline ever since six years ago.

Sayang talaga. He could have gotten as much minutes Kiefer is getting by next year with Ateneo losing senior guards to graduation.

  7. He saw the light (and left it).

It was Fil Oils management who decided who to award the MVP plum.

  8. hirap naman talaga ang decision pag pera na ang katapat......at first, back to cebu daw, tapos now, other manila schools naman are courting. ket kasi di nalang derechohin na masisilaw ka naman talaga sa pera pag ganyan ang offer ng SM! the father would have earned my respect if he was honest enough to speak the truth. kawawa naman si NB, i believe, he believed that the kid would have grown into a great one under him when he is "hinog" already. sm vs. mvp?? LOL. ps: patience is a virtue and a requirement for success....patience vs. sm?? dobol lol

  9. Mark used to be my schoolmate when we were in high school. People call him "Mr. Crossover" here in Cebu. He's also an MVP. He also wants his playing time. Good decision for him to be back here in Cebu, where he really belongs. He can be a Pro even without joining any Manila teams. Just like Dondon Hontiveros. :)

  16. manila people will always favor their kids, regardless of talent...norman, don't promise things when you cannot deliver...be honest...cebuanos are not morons.

  17. they took mark tallo out of greed on the part of the ateneo team...ayaw ni norman mapunta si mark sa ibang team para hindi mahirapan ang ateneo sa 4th championship nila...norman is doing it the filipino way, which greed, corruption and politics...

  18. Get some education to go with your nonsense comments. Ang mga pa-star, walang future, plain and simple. at kahit ilang advantage card pa ibigay syo, wala ka paring advantage. If ever you end up in la salle, good luck having sleepless nights thinking about how Keifer "crossed you over"

  19. fyi, i know them so well and i would like to speak for them. Mac mac Tallo is already enrolled in La Salle.

MARK JAYVEN TALLO good move na lumipat ka sa LA SALLE.. tama nga nmn, Black is hoarding good players para hindi nla makalaban at d sila mahirapan.. panis yan si Ravena kay Tallo.. i've seen Tallo play, i also watched "MVP ng Bayan by Talk n Txt" that was hl last year june at sya ang nanalo, he's the youngest at sya pa ang nanalo.. nung nkita ko yung laro nya i said to myself tong batang to may kukuha talaga na school sa kanya dito.. and the while he's practicing with the blue eagles na pla..

though magandan nmn talaga na school ang Ateneo he chose to transfer to La Salle.. at least he can study and play at the same time..

to think ang daming school ang nagrerecuit sa kanya na may offer pa pero hindi nya tinanggap, he chose Ateneo kahit walang offer..

yung masasabi ko lng, NORMAN BLACK should have been clear the first time na nagpractice si Tallo sa kanya.. kung magaling talga sya na coach he can tell right away kung magagamit nya yung bata at hindi ito pinaasa.. MARK TALLO should have played this season at hindi nasayang yung isang taon nya sa paglalaro..

  20. You want to know why Ateneo is hoarding good players? Because that's what winning teams do. Do you ever notice why winning teams keep winning? Because the recruit the best players out there. Don't blame Ateneo for taking all the good players. It just means that other schools need improve their recruiting system. If you're familiar with the Ateneo system, you would know that Rookies don't get much playing time to begin with. I don't know why Tallo expected any different. Kiefer gets as much time as he does because he's proven himself throughout the years. Kiefer knows the Ateneo system. Does Tallo really think he's going to get that much playing time with how well LA Revilla is doing? Tallo is complaining about lack of playing time? What the hell is he doing now, one year wasted. If he just spent this year with Ateneo, he'd be getting minutes by next year. But no, he's gonna sit out a year just so that he can get more or less the same amount of minutes with DLSU. Tallo said that DLSU fits him better because they like to run... Ummm, did he forget that Ateneo was one of the top, if not the top, fastbreaking team in UAAP 73? I'm betting that he's going to DLSU just so that you come back at Ateneo. It's all good though, Ateneo has rookies taking up residency that will break his ankles and dunk over him.

  21. "If you're familiar with the Ateneo system, you would know that Rookies don't get much playing time to begin with" - with a few Kiefer Ravena exceptions. Self-contradicting naman pre. And ang excuse kay Greg Slaughter eh veteran na from UV which makes Justin Chua what? Tingin ko naman mas alam ni Justin Chua ang Ateneo system compared to Greg pero si Slaughter ang babad.

  22. Any time you have a 7-footer on your team he is always going to get playing time.

  23. E.J. Fiehl a 7-footer = no playing time or less playing time...

  24. Strayed into this blog by chance. All these pro-Tallo comments are so goddamned hilarious in hindsight. LOL

  25. After 10 years We all know the result kiefer or Mac Tallo rookie days. Tallo stint with DLSU 1 year and done.. the Moral of the story wag kayo mag marunong. San kayo nakakita ng Tao nag alsabalutan after filoil kasi hindi na bigyan ng playing time
