JAKARTA, INDONESAI -- Fil-Dutch midfielder Jason de Jong who plays for VB Veendam in the Netherlands has received offers to play in Indonesia and in Australia. Indonesia, a Dutch colony for three and a half centuries has a football system with five levels.

The top three – the Indonesian Super League with 18 clubs, the Liga Indonesia Premier Division that a regional competition featuring 31 teams, and Liga Indonesia First Division that counts 48 clubs in its membership are considered professional and semi-professional. The last two level of the hierarchy, the Liga Indonesia Second and Third Divisions are considered as amateur in level.

De Jong was one of the many Philippine players besieged by autograph and picture seekers during the ongoing semifinals series between the Philippines and Indonesia in the 2010 Suzuki Cup.

“I’ve had several agents talk to me about playing here (indonesia) and in Australia,” said De Jong. “I will talk to them after the tournament because my focus is in helping the Philippines make the finals. It's also good because Indonesian player Bachdim Irfan is also half-Dutch and I've known him for a long time. And it would be good to play here because it also makes me closer to the Philippines and for national team duty. If that happens and I earn enough then I’ll put up a business in the Philippines.”

De Jong is flying back to Holland after the Suzuki Cup. In the meantime, a popular Indonesian actress was also seen at the lobby of the Sultan Hotel Jakarta where she was trying to meet De Jong.

  2. de Jong is a superb midfielder who even the critical StarSports anchors are very happy with. It's good of him to consider playing in Indonesia because of its proximity to our country. You have to respect his dedication to the Azkals! Wherever he decides to go, I hope he does well there and have a prosperous career!

  7. If half or all of our star players accept the offer to play in Indonesia, that means the enemy can sabotage our chances in the next suzuki cup.

IT'S BETTER IF THEY WAIT FOR OTHER OFFERS OUTSIDE SOUTH EAST ASIA BECAUSE THE REGION IS NOT THAT COMPETITIVE COMPARED TO THE REST OF THE WORLD ANYWAY. Australia is a great choice though so they should accept their offer.
