I know the series isn't over between the New York Yankees and the Minnesota Twins even if the defending champs are up 2-zip. And I know that the Bronx Bombers do well against the Twins in the playoffs but still... after limping into MLB's second season, the Yankees went from surefire Division champs to Wild Card participants. And to think that in their three previous wild card berths they lost. So allow me to be a little exuberant about the way things have turned out (even if AJ Burnett isn't pitching). But the post-season is where you ratchet up your intensity and drive. Now they're up having taken two games on the road from the Twins are and headed back to New York to hold serve. Barring a serious meltdown this augurs well for the champs. And I can't help but notice that Tampa Bay is now 0-2.
Watching that game, the Twins can't buy a break. In Game 1, the ref ruled Yankee outfielder Greg Golson's catch a non-catch and instead of a third out, that brought up slugger Jim Thome. Luckily, Mo got him to pop out to Alex Rodriguez. This time around, Game Two, Lance Berkman should have been called for strike three on a pitch by former Yankee Carl Pavano. Instead, he lives to face another pitch that he sends into centerfield for a double and an RBI -- a tie-breaking hit that spurred New York to the win.
Welcome to New York, Minnesota.
