My UAAP Season 73 Awards

Screw the statistical points that aren’t a proper gauge for who should have won awards. It should never be but rather a combination of several things -- stats, over-all impact, did he tow his team to the UAAP's second season? Here’s mine so congratulations to the winners!

Team Awards

Mythical Five Selection:

Center - Emmanuel Mbe (NU)

Power Forward --Reil Cervantes (FEU)

Small Forward - Kirk Long (AdMU)

Off Guard -- RR Garcia (FEU)

Point Guard -- Lester Alvarez (AdU)

All Rookie Team:

Terrence Romeo (FEU)

Arthur dela Cruz Jr. (AdMU)

Luigi dela Paz (DLSU)

Almond Vosotros (DLSU)

Glenn Khobuntin (NU)

All Defensive Team:

Emmanuel Mbe (NU)

Aldrech Ramos (FEU)

Kirk Long (AdMU)

Eric Salamat (AdMU)

Ping Exciminiano (FEU)

Individual Awards

Most Valuable Player – RR Garcia (FEU). This guy is ready for the pros.

Rookie of the Year – Terrence Romeo (FEU). The heir to RR Garcia just landed and he will get better in the years to come.

Defensive Player of the Year – Kirk Long (AdMU). He guarded opposing players form the one-spot all the way to the four-spot. And he could score some while bringing the ball up for Ateneo.

Most Improved Player -- Ken Acibar (UE). Stole Elmer Espiritu's playbook and got tremendous results. He can only get better.

Sixth Man of the Year – Eric Camson (AdU). The fireman cometh.

Foreign Player of the Year – Emmanuel Mbe (NU). The Gods must be crazy to choose anyone else.

Coach of the Year – Norman Black (AdMU). Lost lots of terrific players over the years but the truck keeps rolling. Enuff said.

Finals co-MVPs – Ryan Buenafe & Emman Monfort (AdMU)

Non-traditional Awards

Player I'd Pay to Watch Award -- Ryan Buenafe (AdMU). Is there any other player you'd watch with bated breath? What's he gonna do -- post up, beat with a crossover, shot a fade over, dump with a nasty fake, or sucker for a dime drop? Doesn't need to score a ton of points to beat you. But when he does, it's time to go home.

Mr. Excitement Award -- Alex Nuyles (AdU). See Alex run. See Alex contort himself against the tall trees. See Alex hang. See Alex finish with a flush.

Late Bloomer Award -- Magi Sison (UP). I think it's funny how people ridicule him when he isn't the problem to the Maroons. He was actually their Best Player this Year. Guess all that time in the national team did you good, bud.

The Microwave Award (in honor of the Detroit Pistons' Vinnie Johnson) -- Emman Monfort. Needed no time to warm up. He just flat out killed teams and stupid Atenean fans.
