Monday morning thoughts

Here's a classic case of where the stats don't tell the whole story. In game last Friday (October 8) between Air21 and San Miguel that the Beermen won 100-86, the Express won the rebounding department 61-59, assists 20-18, steals 7-6, second chance points 12-11, and turnover points 19-15. San Miguel won because they shot much better from the field 47.8% to 31.6%. And SMB had more free throw attempts 28-52 for 53.8% to Air21's 20-32 for 62.5%. Any time the Beermen rack up a huge tally in points then they are going to win.

I wonder if given the new rules on officiating if we could keep track of complaints as a new stat. I thought that even if Air21 ruled the boards they could have done a better job if they follow the flight of the ball instead of running back down on defense after taking a jumpshot.

There are currently 134 players in 10 PBA teams. I tried breaking it down in a certain way. Here goes:

60 come from UAAP schools
20 from the NCAA
21 from other leagues
33 Fil-foreigners

Of the 60 UAAP players:
Ateneo has the most with 13
La Salle has 11
UE with 10
UST with 9
FEU with 8
UP with 4
Adamson with 3
and NU with 2.

For the NCAA players:
Letran has 7
San Sebastian 6
San Beda with 5 (not counting Borgie Hermida who has yet to suit up)
College of Saint Benilde with 2.

For the non-top two, PCU has 4 alums in the pros while St. Francis of Assisi has 3.
