Saturday stuff

Went to the Greenhills tiangge today. It's the one place where I truly enjoy shopping here in Manila. It always has and will always be. I never tire of walking around and looking at stuff. I only wish I had more moolah to spend but don't we all wish? So today, I bought some shirts and a graphic novel (X-Men: Mutant Genesis) at Fully Booked. I also picked up the Deluxe Edition of Grease (the soundtrack). I already have the 20th Anniversary Edition DVD of the musical and I never tire of watching it. Sha Na Na rules!

My column on Monday's Bleachers' Brew in Business Mirror is about that ridiculous FIFA Report on the just concluded World Cup in South Africa. Sepp Blatter and his minions probably think people are like sheep. And hey, PFF... you're next in the firing line. As much as I like Spain's style of football, isn't it kind of presumptuous to call them one of the best of the century when there are 90 more years to play when we call it a century? Jeez...

The last issue of Rebound has technically.... sold out. Very very few copies left. It is our best seller so far. Thanks so much for buying a copy if you did at all. In case you didn't, try it out. Let us know about the magazine -- what you like and didn't like. The new issue, with the San Beda Red Lions will be out right around the first game of the Final Four of the UAAP.

College players I enjoy watching this season: Ryan Buenafe (AdMU), Allan Mangahas (Mapua), Marvin Hayes (JRU), Alex Nuyles (Adamson), Kokoy Hermosisima (NU), Calvin Abueva (SSCR), Carlo Lastimosa (CSB), and Su Daniel (SBC).

How about the NU Bulldogs of Eric Gonzales? Already eliminated they came out fighting and they bagged a big fish in the Adamson Falcons. What a strategy by Gonzales by going to his bench early on. They did so well that when the regular starters came in, it was they who lost the lead! Hahahaha. After the season, Gonzales will make way for Eric Altamirano and his assistants (hey, Vic Ycasiano will be a part of this! Coach!).

See here now. Sana naman the SBP will make sure that whoever the national coach is he does not steer any players to anyone school. We saw that with Franz and now with Coach E. As much as I root also for the Bulldogs, it's really not right. There's so much about local basketball that must be fixed. Right coaches Chito (Victolero) and Ato (Agustin)?

John Taylor's The Rivalry is proving to be one great read. I'm taking my time with it as every page is enjoyable for Taylor's ability to retell a tale that should shed light on players and teams we only casually know about. I think he does a great job ala the late David Halberstam who specialized with such stories that have a historical bent. If you love the game of basketball and are interested in the early days of the NBA then this one is for you.

Will be buying a Thierry Henry New York Red Bulls jersey next month. Then a Schalke kit. Raul no longer wear the whites of los merengues but the blue of Schalke. Woo hoo!

Have the special edition of Oasis' Time Flies that has four discs -- two for their hit singles, one for their last ever concert, and one for all their videos. Watching "Roll With It" took me back to a time when I was staying in HK and I was heavily into punk with Rancid, Green Day, NOFX and the Offspring when I saw a video of "Roll With It" playing at the Silvercord Centre. They used to have a good CD shop in the basement and that's where I would buy stuff from time to time. I only got their single after which I came back the following day for (What's the story) Morning Glory?

Anyone get the feeling that Floyd Mayweather Jr. is on drugs?
