Now the New York Yankees have almost their entire lineup back. Only Designated Hitter Nick Johnson is still out after undergoing wrist surgery that will keep him out for about another 45 days at the most. Even without their full lineup, the Bronx Bombers were doing some major damage to the opposition until that series against Detroit at Comerica. It was against Minnesota last season where the team went on a tear that separated them from the rest of the league. Is this homestand against the Baltimore Orioles where they repeat the feat? After their 9-1 win against the hapless Orioles, the Yankees are 7-3 in their last 10 matches for an overall 33-20 record, second best in baseball behind the Tampa Bay Devil Rays who are 2.5 games ahead.
Right now, I'm concerned with their pitching. The ace of the staff, CC Sabathia has been in a funk but thankfully AJ Burnett, Andy Pettitte and Phil Hughes have done well. And even Javy Vazquez is rounding out into form. And with Alfredo Aceves still out, maybe the Yankees need another pitcher to bolster the staff. Anyone available? At the risk of heresy, I'm pulling for Pedro Martinez. And then there's Roy Oswalt.
