BC Belgrade beat Smart Gilas 80-79 today with the Filipinos having a chance to upend the home team (that beat them by 2 points last year). A spate of costly turnovers did the visitors in. But according to Gilas co-captain Mark Barroca, some of the calls were really going the home team's way. "Struggle talaga," sa tawag at sa laro. Pero pang experience yan. Hindi naman pwede laging panalo."
"I think the jet lag got us in the first game. In the second loss, I think we can play better." explained center Greg Slaughter.
The Nationals got one of their injured players back in Aldrech Ramos. The only two players unavailable are Rabeh Al-Hussaini and Rey Guevarra. Al-Hussaini should be back in action by next month. As for Guevarra, it depends on his rehab from his ACL.
Yesterday, the Nationals survived a Superfund rally and won its second game 91-84. The Filipinos led practically all the way as they got the jump on the home side.
With the results of the two games, Smart Gilas fell to 1-2 on the road trip. They lost their initial assignment to Metallac SK.
