Three Visayan teams have joined the 7th Shakey’s V-League to make it a 10-team field. The tournament begins on April 11 at the Arena in San Juan.
The format will feature two brackets composed of five teams each that will play a single round robin. The top four teams advance to the quarters in a single round robin. Teams will again be grouped into two and play a single round with the top two teams in each group clashing in a pair of crossover semis. The top two teams play a best-of-three series.
The three Visayan teams are the University of San Jose-Recoletos, Southwestern University from Cebu, and the University of St. La Salle-Bacolod. SWU, which won last year’s CESAFI women’s volleyball tournament, will be seeded as a Metro Manila team, taking the spot vacated by University of the Philippines that decided to take a leave of absence to further shore up its roster in time for the second conference in July.
The other teams taking part in the tournament include University of Santo Tomas, which swept last year’s twin titles for a league-best five championships, Ateneo, Adamson, FEU, San Sebastian, Lyceum, and the College of St. Benilde.
Games are set on Sundays,Tuesdays and Thursdays starting at 2 p.m. Games will be shown on a delayed basis the following playdate on NBN 4 although matches can be viewed live on webcast at www.v-league.ph.
