Monday Morning Zingers

It was the late NBA (Fort Wayne Pistons) Coach and Referee Charley Eckman who once said, “There are only to great plays – South Pacific and put the ball in the hoop.” And it’s true, isn’t it? And this here’s Petra Nemcova taken during the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue shoot for 2007 but no, it’s not in the Pacific but in Italy. But you wouldn’t know if I didn’t tell you, right?

David Beckham says that he would have never left Old Trafford because he wanted to play for Manchester United ‘til the day he dies. No foolin’, Becks. In almost every move you’ve made, your relationship with your club soured (maybe not with the players) and your handlers initiated any move. Now they do nothing without your imprimatur. Now Fergie had enough of the circus that you brought along with you because you couldn’t decide whether you were a footballer or a pop star. And prior to this season the way you treated your LA Galaxy teammates… that’s why Fergie, Fabio Capello, and Bruce Arena are tough on you.

The Indianapolis Colts lost for the second straight game (albeit in a consecutive gimme) this time to the Buffalo Bills 30-7. Yes, they did rest their starters in a now no-bearing match. Of course, they had to rest their starters now that the streak is over. In two weeks we find out if they can go all the way.

Someone asked what was my wallpaper on my Mac – LeBron James in a nice shot at the Staples Center. Also asked what was my wallpaper on my iPod – Jessica Alba. My ringtone – Julius Erving’s intro by Dave Zinkoff at the old Philadelphia Spectrum.

One asked how come I never mentioned the NHL’s Winter Classic this season. Sheet. It was played by the Boston Bruins and the Philadelphia Flyers. You think I give a crap about the Bruins? But I am rooting for the youth-laden Team USA in the Winter Olympics hockey tournament.
