on National University's head coaching job

When I wrote that Manny Dandan was going to be let go by National University as head coach, there were initially three coaches that they wanted: Louie Alas, Pido Jarencio, and Eric Altamirano. When some friends among their management asked if I could recommend anyone, I threw in Ariel Vanguardia's name in the hat. before of the start of the 85th Season of the NCAA, Chris Soler and I were saying that if Vanguardia didn't win it this year, he could be released by the school. This year represented their best chance to snatch the title away from San Beda. And true enough it happened.

But before I threw in the former JRU coach's name in, I advised them to go get a coach with a rep for turning programs around and having won a title. That's what you need for NU because they are on their way up.

As of last night, Junel Baculi said it isn't so that they got Pido. The Bulldogs are currently training only with their shooting coach but that should change this second semester. Whoever will coach NU should know that this position is just as much as being on the hot seat. And really, best of luck. It's going to be just as fun covering this team because it truly represents a new era because now, everyone on board is new.

As Norman Black once said, "Coaches get hired to get fired."
