New York Yankee catcher Jorge Posada, one of the four remaining players from the Yankee dynasty of the 1990s, smacks a home run off former teammate Carl Pavano to give his team the lead for good at 2-1. They parlayed their HRs to a 4-1 series sweep of the Twins and move to the ALCS versus the Los Angeles Angels.
Minnesota Twins centerfielder Delmon Young couldn't get to Posada's HR. Take a look at the Twins fans who seem to be going, "Ngeeehhh!"
Compounding the Twins' woes was Twins' second baseman Nick Punto's baserunning error. He though that Denard Span's single went through the gap and past NY shortstop Derek Jeter. But the NY captain got ahold of the ball and threw to Posada who quickly threw to Yankee thrid baseman Alex Rodriguez who tagged Punto out. One batter later, Punto's teammate Orlando Cabrera launched a shot to the outfield that would have been a sac fly and a tying run had Punto still be safe at third.
Well, the Twins went down 1-2-3 like a Mariano Rivera outing. And with their done post-season, so will the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome that was almost immediately dismantled after the game. Here workers pry loose home plate. The Metrodome is a loud place and saw two World Series titles by Minnesota during their Kirby Puckett, Breet Blyleven, and Kent Hrbek days in 1987 and 1991.
