Jordan KO's RP

Jordan knocked out Powerade Team Pilipinas with a 81-70 victory that sent them to the semifinal round of the 25th FIBA-Asia Men’s Championship versus Iran that disposed of hard-fighting Qatar 75-65.

Although the Philippines lost out an opportunity to gain a berth to the 2010 FIBA World Championship in Istanbul, Turkey, there is a possibility that wild card berths will be given to countries from each zone. But that has to be ratified by FIBA. For now, the Philippines will finish no lower than eighth place and could move up to fifth in the final standings.

The RP San Miguel Team finished ninth at the 2007 games in Tokushima, Japan.

Rasheim Wright, Jordan’s shifty guard, top scored with 21 while 6’10” center Ayman Idais wreaked havoc inside with 20 points before he fouled out. The West Asian squad ruled the boards 49-38 as Zaid Abbas hauled down 16 rebounds.

Gabe Norwood led the Philippines with 11 points and it was his back-to-back treys that cut Jordan’s lead to 68-63 with some six minutes left.

Jared Dillinger and Willie Miller added 10 points each but glaring in their lack of production was forward Kerby Raymundo and guard James Yap who went ice cold just when the team needed their scoring sock.
