Around the horn

The Red Sox replaced third baseman Mike Lowell with infielder Gil Velazquez on the team's active roster for the ALDS. Because the switch was made in the middle of a series, Lowell will be ineligible to play in the ALCS, should the Red Sox advance that far. Remember, Lowell was their MVP last season.

After misplaying the Johann Santana sweepstakes, you can be sure the Yankees will put their best Gold Glove on this. Superstar free agent pitcher CC Sabathia's contention on Sunday that "I'll play anywhere'' would seem to bode well for the Yankees, who are expected to be the most lucrative possible destination. When asked about it, Sabathia also mentioned that he liked New York and considered the new Yankee Stadium a plus.

It's bad enough people talk about the Chicago Cubs being cursed by the Billy Goat. After they were swept once more out of the post-season this time by the LA Dodgers, White Sox Manager Ozzie Guillen cusrsed them out in a post-game interview, "Bleep the Cubs."
