Going Home?

Everyone seems to be on the edge of their seats. Ronaldinho is now with AC Milan. Will Cristiano Ronaldo end up in the Bernabeu or stay in Old Trafford? Will Frank Lampard re-join Jose Mourinho at Inter Milan? Where will Didier Drogba end up? Is Lukas Podolski going to stay with Bayern Munich despite Jurgen Klinsmann's entreaties?

And now, will Cesc Fabregas go back to Barcelona?

If you saw the interview with former Arsenal midfielder Aliaksandr Hleb when he arrived at Camp Nou, he hinted that Fabregas, one of Spain's stars during its stirring Euro 2008 championship run, is thinking of heading back to the club where he first started out.

Fabregas is one of the alumni of Barcelona's famed Football Academy. A list that includes the team's current keeper Victor Valdes, midfielders Andres Iniesta and Xavi, defender Carles Puyol, strikers Bojan Krkic and Giovanni Dos Santos, and forward Lionel Messi.

Other alums include Atletico Madrid's (and former Liverpool forward) Luis Garcia and Thiago Motta, Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta, Ajax Amsterdam forward Albert Luque, Manchester United defender Gerard Pique, Arsenal's Fran Merida, and Metallurg Donetsk's Jordi Cruyff (doesn't that last name sound so familiar).

I believe that Arsenal will hold and try to keep Fabregas. After losing Thierry Henry the previous year, I think they can ill afford to lose another scoring threat especially one who is emerging as an all-around star and impact player. But the lure of Barca is strong now as they are re-tooling. We'll find out in the next few days.
