Strike Two

Former Philippine Basketball Association Technical Head (the dude in charge of officiating) Perry Martinez stepped down and retired from the league because "of a confluence of events that happened." He was referring to the suspension of Purefoods gunner James Yap for Game 5 which was won by Sta. Lucia.

Perry, who played alongside Chot Reyes, Jeric Hechanova, Mike Facundo, and Jojo Lastimosa for the Ateneo Blue Eagles, retired because he was being transfered to the Operations Department after his row with League commissioner Sonny Barrios. He also cited health reasons, something I know that is also true. But methinks, it was that disagreement with Barrios that precipitated all this.

Believe it or not, Martinez is the second Atenean to leave the PBA management over a dispute involving Sta. Lucia. And the other one is a little more ... exp...
