And it's only spring training

The New York Yankees's first baseman Shelley Ducan slid hard into Tampa Bay Devil Rays' second baseman Akinori Iwamura that precipitated a near brawl and ejections.

This was obviously escalating the bad blood between the two teams when the Rays' Elliot Johnson took out Yankees catcher Francisco Cervelli several days ago. Cervelli will be out for a while with a broken wrist.

The Yanks pitcher Heath Phillips got the revenge party started right in the first inning when he drilled Evan Longoria in the mid-section with a fastball. The ump threw out Phillips. And in the second inning, the Yanks clearly showed that they were still pissed what with Duncan seeking to crush future generations of Iwamuras.

Okay. As much as I'm all for free-for-alls from time to time, this should end now. But does anyone think so?

In the meantime, Billy Crystal, the Yankees' new DH -- Designated Hebrew -- will be bringing in a urine sample prior to tomorrow's game with the Pittsburgh Pirates. "I might test positive for Maalox," he quipped.

Crystal said that he has something for the Pirates. "A little Mazeroski payback," he said in reference to the Pittsburgh catcher's Game 7 bottom-of-the-ninth inning series clinching home run versus New York.

Hopefully, Billy will get a hit.

Let's Go Yankees!
